Close to 300 years old this work of art is a true treasure. Jan Van Huysum is best known for his oils. This watercolor is an excellent study. He is one of my favorite artists. I really like to follow sales of artists that have past on. When this work was created he may have sold it for a sum equal to $720 - $1440. His larger oils were sold for 4000 guilders. Those paintings are now valued at 6.5 million dollars. An impressive investment.

Roberta Rosenthal will be teaching numerous workshops and classes which will incorporate many of the skills and techniques used to create works, inspired by Jan Van Huysum, painting botanical art with a contemporary look. Take a look at the schedule below for classes at the New York Botanical Garden, Catskill Art Society, and Wallkill River School.

At Mount Saint Mary College my upcoming course on Asian brush painting with sumi-e ink and watercolor painting the focus will be on landscapes, trees, rocks and spot features of buildings, boats, people, animals and flowers.

A reminder I will be exhibiting my art monthly at the Wurtsboro Art Alliance, Wallkill River School, and at SUNY Orange County Community College Gallery Loft July 22 - August 17, 2009.
